Nude

Nude

Nude is one of the most important creative themes in Western art. After the war, Taiwanese society was relatively conservative and could not fully understand the art of human bodies. Therefore, when Lin Si-duan held an exhibition featuring human bodies in Taipei, the occasion aroused controversy from all walks of life. This work in 1950 was shot in Tokyo, Japan. Lee used soft light and other photography techniques to make the human body in the work achieve the same exquisite and elegant effect as paintings do. The lines and shapes of the human body in the photo are refined in abstract form. The model stands on tiptoes and bends forward with hair flowing down naturally. Her hands hold both sides of the back of the chair. Such posture requires a certain amount of strength to support the entire body, but the human body in the photo does not deliberately highlight the muscles, but makes the chair become a frame to bring out the softness of the body. The ample like a thick ink balances the tension that make the body curved. The work does not put emphasis on the effects of light and shadow, but instead shapes the human body into a classical sculpture, emphasizing the appearance of lines, shapes and volumes. Such close-up arrangement makes the body more diversified and gives the viewer a strong visual impact.
