During his productive photographic life, Chin had visited more than 30 countries. He particularly enjoyed experiencing the cultures of different countries, some of which are advanced civilizations, and others ethnic minorities. He wanted to assemble all of his portraits of people from various countries into a big photographic work, to presents the multiple faces of diverse humanistic life in this world.
Mainly living in the Nu River and Lancang River basins of Yunnan Province, the Lisu people are one of the ethnic minorities in mainland China. Under the influence of Westerners, the Lisu people gradually came to believe in Christianity, the main religion for them now. Chin went to the remote Lisu Autonomous Prefecture to shoot his work. The traditional costume worn by this Lisu girl is very distinctive, thus attracting Chin’s attention. He used a long shot to capture her moments of shyness, making this portrait more lively and moving, as he revealed his perception of the Lisu Girl’s emotional world in the picture.
