The photographer and curator Chuan Hui-hua views highly of Lin Chuan-tsu’s pastoral scenery series. In 1999, he pointed out in an article published in Photography World that “Mr. Lin Chuan-tsu’s works often reveal a kind of warm concern, which signifies his respect and affirmation of the land of Taiwan; they contains homesickness and nostalgia, and also takes aesthetic and texture into account. His works celebrate an expression of liveliness and vitality that the viewer can relate when one sees it.” In 2009, the Chuan Hui-hua also invited Lin Chuan-tsu to participate in the exhibition Photography of Ox in Taiwan. He thought that the interaction between ox and human beings interpreted by Lin is original. The arrangement of the layouts often highlights the perseverance of the characters fighting in the environment.
For example, in Shepherd Boys in Bamboo Grove, the proportion of the figures is relatively small compared to the surrounding environment, which symbolizes the hardships of life and the greatness of nature. However, the gray-scale background like a splash of ink and landscape makes the picture elegant and relaxing. The shepherd boys and the buffalos are moving forward in the light, which suggests the condition of life is getting better. The stage-like setting and the arrangement of light and shadow allow the viewer to focus on the small and dynamic characters against the background. The image are rich in both artistic conception and visual beauty.
