Rural Village by Mei River

Rural Village by Mei River

In order to fully understand first-hand photography information around the world, Lin Chuan-tsu self-taught English and read a lot of English photography-related magazines such as Life and National Geographic.

According to Lin’s wife Lin Wu Zu-mei, an American Pastor Mr. Gao who was preaching in Taichung at that time, and he contributed a lot to Lin Chuan-tsu’s photography research, assisting in the purchase of various photography books in English and color photos, and sometimes assisting in translation. Lin Chuan-tsu tirelessly experimented with the development of color films on his own, and even wrote an English letter to the US Kodak company, inquiring about color development techniques. This kind of spirit and investment in research and development was quite admirable at the time.

Lin Chuan-tsu was passionate about the pursuit of creative themes, techniques and artistic expressions. Lin, Gao and Hong Kong-da, a photographer and an obstetrician in Taichung, discussed the related techniques and also gathered for outdoor shooting, looking for creative themes and expressions.

The color rendering of the Rural Village by Mei River is quite sophisticated. The delicate changes of color reveal a soft and fresh atmosphere. The farmhouse in the background is presented in a simple and earthy tone, showing the down-to-earth impression of rural folk customs. Apart from pursuing mastery of color, Lin still holds insights for composition, and would not neglect any detail in photo making. The figure in dark clothes in the field gives a touch to the extensibility of the frame.
